Children of Theresienstadt – “If only I could return to my home”

2013
Curator: Poria Lichi, Tami Kinberg, Sima Shachar

The exhibition portrays the world of the children in Ghetto Theresienstadt. It depicts reality in the ghetto, the difficulties and hardships as well as the joyful moments, from the perspective of the children and their counselors.

The visitors learns about the children’s thoughts, fears, and hardships through drawings, excerpts from letters, diaries, and compositions. In video clips shown on a television screen, survivors speak about their personal experiences from that period. The astounding educational enterprise maintained in the ghetto is presented through the figures of four educators.

A wooden relief engraved with the words “To return to the land of our forefathers” is the final exhibit, expressing the hope and continuity embodied by the establishment of the State of Israel.
